Wedding Paintings

After I had completed a painting for my daughter's wedding, her bridesmaid also wanted hers to be done so that it could be displayed at the entrance to the dinner ballroom. Then another friend wanted theirs to be painted as well.

'Want to Bubur Cha-Cha?' was exhibited during the 2010 Pameran Pesta Pulau Pinang. The theme of the exhibition was 'A Sense Of Flavours'. The above painting was among the 3 chosen under the senior category. The chief judge, Hasnul Jamal Saidon, had this to quote...."Esther Gerardine Reutens' 'Want to Bubur Cha-Cha' also interpret a local food (in her case, 'bubur cha-cha') in a light and witty manner. Befitting the title, Esther seems to ask and invite her viewers to dance with her 'bubur', in this case, her colorful, vibrant, fresh and highly textured painting. The whole feel perhaps suggests the mood of enjoying the visually appealing and colorful food itself. Esther's use of visual symmetry is further complimented by the alternate use of both warm and cool color registers, making the abstract work appears 'inviting' for the eyes. It lures our eyes to 'dance' a 'cha-cha'!"

MIndscape - my 3rd solo art exhibition

This is Esther Reutens again after a disappearance of about 1 1/2 years.

Just had my 3rd solo exhibition opening on May 21st.,2011 and the artworks will be displayed until May 31st., 2011. It was sort of a spur of the moment/impulse solo art show.. The exhibition was held at the newly opened Island Gallery at Phuah Hin Leong Road in Penang. I wasn't really prepared as the time frame was short. Many of my earlier newer works were sold even before being exhibited. It was a 1 1/2 months hectic marathon of painting. My poor family took over the household chores. Sadly my mixed terrier dog died. On top of these chaos, I was having a mental block too!!!! However I managed to pull through and produced 8 new paintings. I also showcased 3 recent paintings of 2010, restored an old 1981 painting that was never exhibited before. The exhibition titled "Mindscape" tries to capture my mind as I travel through life.
